NoD Work Exchange Program Alum: Michael Gordon

I first heard about the NoD 1-Month Work Exchange Program from Chirag when he guest spoke in my entrepreneurship class at the University of Texas at Dallas. Following a presentation about the startup ecosystem in North Texas, I wanted to be a part of the community. As an aspiring entrepreneur and journalist, I wanted to gain exposure to the startup environment and the program was an opportunity to make that a reality.

Entering the program, I felt like a novice, soaking in as much information and knowledge from Chirag and the members at NoD Coworking as I could. My goal for the month was to learn from Chirag and plug into the community.

You would be hard pressed to find a workplace anything like NoD or the other coworking spaces in North Texas. The concept of a coworking space was new to me; it was exciting to see people collaborate from completely different industries. Before entering the program, I attended Tech Wildcatters Pitch Day, hosted at American Airlines Center. At Pitch Day, I was able to see startups pitch their ideas to investors.

I am attracted to entrepreneurs and startups because they possess a passion, drive and are working towards their dreams. I was astounded to see how massive the DFW Startup Community is. Dallas is developing into an entrepreneurial hub, modeling the likes of Silicon Valley. Growing up in Coppell, I had no idea that Dallas was a hub for innovation and possibility for startups.

At NoD, I had the privilege of working alongside passionate, driven individuals who are working on a wide range of projects. During my month at NoD, I celebrated NoD’s Year Anniversary, assisted in organizing Startup Weekend and attended the Player’s Lunch where I met influential figures in the community.

My most memorable experience took place at the Player’s Lunch, being able to experience the scope of the startup community and interact with key people in one room was a priceless experience. Overall, my time at NoD was the highlight of my summer.

The knowledge and experience I gained during the program will help me in my entrepreneurial endeavors in the future. NoD is a special organization, I am honored to have participated in the program and thankful for the opportunity.

I encourage any student or entrepreneur to participate in the program if they are interested in getting plugged into the startup community in North Texas.
